So, Niece #1 (not to be confused with Nieces 2,3,4, or 4.5) reads my blog, which I think is a pretty hip thing for a nine-year-old to do.
Although N1 is fairly savvy as to the ways of the world (a 4th grade world, anyway), she was not alive during the 80s and, therefore, missed the wonder that is REO Speedwagon. So, for her and any other pre-teen readers I may have, here's a quick primer, courtesy of Wikipedia:
REO Speedwagon took its name from the REO Speed Wagon, a flatbed truck, manufactured by the REO Motor Car Company. ("R.E.O." are initials of the company's founder, Ransom Eli Olds, who also founded Oldsmobile, once a division of General Motors.)
And basically (this is me again, not Wikipedia) they formed a band, some people got replaced with some other people, they had a lot of hits, then they had some hard times, and now they play mostly in fairs and casinos, but they do play the occasional arena, as well.
So there you are, N1. I hope that makes you go out and buy an REO Speedwagon album. Or cassette. Or CD. Or electronic download. Or whatever the kids are listening to these days.
